Micro draco red dot
This is a question that pops up now and then and has been debated on many a gun forum. Besides the obvious answer, on the top of the rifle, there are a few things to consider. People will adamantly claim one way is better than the other, but at the end of the day do what works best for you.
Mounting optics to fixed carry handles was cool in the 90s. We have better systems now. While it may be tough to figure out exactly where you want to mount your RDS, it is very easy to decide where NOT to mount it. Even if you have a free floated handguard, it will never be as consistent and solid as mounting it on the top of the receiver.
Your weapon heats up as you shoot — and the most heat is in the chamber and barrel, which is surrounded by your handguard. Metal expands when heated, and depending on how your handguard attaches to your gun, your zero can, and likely will shift to some degree.
How much is impossible to tell. Some manufacturers have begun to design handguards to mount in such a way to minimize this, like the BCM KMR, but as a rule of thumb, keep your RDS on the top of your receiver. The exception may be with some of the monolythic uppers where the handguard and upper receiver is one solid piece.
So, in conclusion — where should you mount your RDS? I generally find most people do best with it somewhere in the middle of the receiver or farther forward. You can also try shooting some groups in the two different positions and see if you notice any difference. At the end of the day, like many things with gear setup and shooting, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. When you decide where you like it, take a silver Sharpie and make a little mark from the mount to the receiver, so if you remove it, you can get it back to the same spot.
Learn your system, and if you have to, double check your zero. This is especially important in rifles where a high-degree of accuracy is expected. Nice article fellas. Keep up the good work, be safe. I enjoyed your article. I find the best position for an EOTech on a non-traditional rifle like the Kel-Tec SUB that does not have a Picatinny rail over the receiver is to mount the optic all the way out front on the hand guard.

AK Pistol? Want to mount a Red Dot? Look no further! Aug 26, 1. I was forunate enough to test this product out on my Zastava M92 AK pistol, and am extremely happy with the results. I searched high and low for a good option to mount an optic to my ak pistol in a sturdy way, and I finally found it. Installation was fairly simple, and this upgrade really performs on the range! First I'll give a range review, then I'll give you installation instructions. It does come with instructions when it arrives, but I break it down step by step to save you a little time.
Very affordable, and I believe it to be the best bang for the buck. I also installed a Magpul MOE cantilever rail section on the bottom of the handguard so I could attach a light. You have to install the rail segment before you install the forend on your gun, so do that first so you don't have to take the forend off in the future.
I ordered my top plate to use with the Aimpoint micro. You don't need any kind of additional mount with it, the top plate attaches directly to the RDS.
The handguard is comfortable in the hand, and allows alot of mounting options. It did withstand my brute prying very well, which is impressive, because I usually break things! With this being a pistol, your mounting area is obviously very limited. I searched for a good flashlight option, and my best solution was to install the cantilever rail section all the way forward with the TLR3 pistol light lumens, very small. This allows me to fully utilize my handguard and still have lighting. At the range, the forend performed well.
I had zero issues. I sighted in my red dot at 25y, 50y, and y. I adjusted my aimpoint 35 clicks up in elevation and NONE for windage. We offer sales and consignments of firearms and class III weapons as well as components. I am considering adding a red dot. I like the strike industries rear sight mount and one of the primary arms micro red dots. Would this be a good combo? Any other inexpensive suggestions? I saw the strike industries a friend had and preferred the design or the attero arms mount and primary arms micro, I have that is on my mini draco, on my standard draco I have a parabellum armament akars dust cover rail and Bushnell TRS On a side not the hooded Front sight will mess with your sight picture through the optic, I have been thinking about trimming the hoods on them.
I may go with the bushnell red dot. I want to be able to cowitness the sights to.
I like the Ultimak rail, but am looking into others also. Which mounts can I still use the sights with? I used a Sparc with the riser.
I replaced the wood furniture with a Midwest Industries Quad Rail. The Sparc comes with the riser. Attached Images.

The only difference is the relative size of the dot at any given distance. At a particular distance the round might theoretically impact on the bottom or top edge of a 2 MOA dot, but still impact in the slightly larger 3 MOA dot. There is significantly more red dot area for the round to impact in.

Where to Mount Your Red Dot Sight
For red dot zeroing would you recommend a 25 yard point of aim point of impact? Also, is the height of my red dot irrelevant in relation to the height of my irons? Awesome question.
